Beko Aims to Build a Healthier World One Kitchen At A Time

Health and wellness are a huge focus everywhere you look or read in 2022. There are more extremes in the weather, food costs are jumping, and living through a pandemic has made a lot of us re-evaluate our lifestyle.

In 2019 I picked up a press kit at the International Builders Show for an appliance company that I had never heard of. When this show combined with The Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, it made it possible to see and talk to thousands of companies that had new ideas and products to share. Beko Appliances is one of the largest appliance companies in Europe, but they were fairly new to the US market. It is hard these days to find products that you have never seen or thought of before, but they accomplished this. I keep their press kit on my desktop, intent on keeping up with what this innovative company was doing.

In 2021 I got an exciting phone call - Beko had actually heard of the Lifestylist Brands, and they wanted this Lifestylist® to be part of their growth and introduction to designers and consumers in the US! Of course I said yes, especially when they shared that Beko was a company that focused on “innovation to make our customers’ life healthier and more convenient.” Their parent company Arcelik has been named one of the most sustainable companies in the world, and they were putting together their Healthy Kitchen Council. I am honored to be part of this prestigious group, and I can’t wait to share all of the innovative products they will be bringing to the US market in 2022.

For years I have been trying to figure out a more eco-friendly way to enjoy a great cup of coffee in the morning without having to drive to my favorite coffee house or spending thousands of dollars on a good espresso machine. The pod-style of coffee makers just isn’t working for me anymore. All of the pods that ended up in the trash every week were not only filling up landfills, but I couldn’t support my local roasters and I had no idea how old the coffee pods were when I bought them online or at the grocery store. I shared my frustration with the Beko team when we met for our first Healthy Kitchen Summit.

Just before Christmas, a box arrived on my doorstep, and it was this wonderful Beko Turkish Coffee Maker! It was everything that I had asked for. No pods, no water reservoir, no filters, and it easily and efficiently could brew one cup or two of coffee at a time. Plus, you have that beautiful foam that Turkish coffee is known for on the top brewed perfectly every time. You have to love a company that listens and can come up with great solutions so quickly. You can purchase your own on the Beko website or on Amazon, and you won’t believe how inexpensive it is!

The Home Idea Factory kitchen has needed a makeover for awhile, and it seems like this might be the perfect time to get started on this. Living in a 1942 printing factory has always had its challenges, put that is what I thrive on. We have always saved and reused all materials that we can, so as little as possible goes to the landfills. We also love going to estate sales, thrifting, and visiting architectural salvage yards so we have lots of unique pieces throughout our space. But it is time for some things to go. My dishwasher has acted as storage for years, and I thought I was saving water washing everything by hand, but that is actually a huge waste of water. I have hated my range since I purchased it, and I now know that induction and steam are a must have for my new lifestyle.

It’s hard to believe that IBS and KBIS are only a month away! I can’t wait to get to Orlando and to see what is new. It will also be so good to catch up in person with my Healthy Kitchen group and share our experiences over the last few months -the best is yet to come!
